Job Requirements

  • coursework, training and/or experience in food preparation, baking and/or kitchen operations in the food service industry or related field
  • ability to communicate effectively with facility residents, patients, members, inmates, and co-workers
  • ability to train and supervise food service staff or inmates
  • capacity to prepare complex recipes
  • capability to safely use sharp, heavy or hot kitchen equipment
  • understanding and enforcement of conduct rules for inmates
  • ability to keep records
  • tolerance to high temperature and humidity
  • physical ability to bend, stoop, lift and carry food items, equipment, and supplies
  • availability to work day shift and every-other weekend rotation with a set schedule

Job Qualifications

  • coursework, training and/or experience in food preparation, baking and/or kitchen operations in the food service industry or related field
  • knowledge of kitchen and dining room safety practices
  • familiarity with special diets and facility food preparation schedules
  • ability to communicate effectively with residents, patients, inmates, and co-workers
  • capacity to train and supervise staff
  • ability to use kitchen equipment and utensils safely
  • understanding of food sanitation and security procedures

Job Duties

  • perform skilled work in the preparation and serving of food
  • oversee food preparation, serving, and maintenance of kitchen sanitation by inmate workers
  • serve as a lead worker assigning and monitoring the work of food service assistants
  • train and supervise lower level food service staff or inmates
  • ensure compliance with food handling, serving, and cleaning procedures
  • maintain kitchen and dining room safety standards
  • adapt menus to accommodate needs and available food supplies
