Job Requirements
- High school graduate
- 3 years of experience in food preparation, service techniques, cashiering, sanitation standards, and diet applications
- ServSafe Food Handler certification to be obtained within 1 year
- Strong knowledge in food service from hospital, restaurant, or related environment
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work closely with nursing personnel
- Ability to read and understand communications
- Self-directed and able to make decisions independently
- Friendly and cheerful demeanor
- Excellent phone etiquette
- Knowledge of food/drug interactions and food allergens
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, twist, and climb during shift
- Ability to push or pull up to 20 lbs
- Willingness to work flexible shifts including weekends and holidays
- Ability to adhere to safety and sanitation regulations.

- Typically requires 3 years of experience in food preparation, service techniques, cashiering, sanitation standards, general and modified diets in a hospital or restaurant environment
- ServSafe Food Handler certification (or ability to obtain within 1 year)
- Strong knowledge of food service in hospital or restaurant settings
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work cooperatively with nursing personnel
- Ability to read and understand written and oral communications
- Self-directed with the ability to work independently and make decisions with minimal supervision
- Friendly and cheerful demeanor
- Excellent phone etiquette
- Knowledge of food and drug interactions and food allergens
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office, email, and internet
Job Duties
- Acts as a resource to employees and students, including training, orienting, and providing day-to-day work direction
- Assigns, monitors, and reviews progress and accuracy of work
- Monitors productivity, maintains appropriate staffing levels, directs efforts, and provides guidance on complex issues
- Assists with human resource responsibilities such as interviewing, selection, staff development, resolving employee concerns, and boosting morale
- Monitors department operations, adjusts schedules, records essential information, and ensures timely work completion
- Provides work direction and guidance to food service staff and assigns tasks to deliver efficient and timely service
- Maintains quality food production for internal and external customers
- Resolves issues related to workflow, customer complaints, employee staffing, and equipment failures
- Acts as resource for resolving problems and training in food preparation, serving, recipe standardization, cashiering, infection control, fire safety, and cleanup
- Forecasts food requirements for patients, cafeterias, and special functions and maintains meal census and food usage records
- Manages purchasing, tray-line, cafeteria, and special function requests
- Inspects equipment and work areas to ensure compliance with maintenance and sanitation standards
- Utilizes production safety and sanitation standards to prevent contamination
- May function as Food Service Assistant or Food Ambassador performing meal assembly, delivery, dish room duties, assisting patients, cash handling, and servicing cafeteria customers
