Job Requirements

  • No experience required
  • Basic knowledge in food service
  • Ability to read and understand written and oral communications
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office or similar products
  • Ability to use e-mail and internet
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs from floor to 5 ft and lift and carry up to 40 lbs at waist height
  • Must be able to push/pull with 20 lbs of force
  • Must be able to stand, walk, reach, bend, squat, twist, kneel, and climb during work shift
  • May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards and must wear protective clothing as necessary
  • May be required to enter patient isolation rooms wearing appropriate coverings during meal service
  • Will be exposed to sharp knives, heat, and other hazards in a kitchen environment

Job Qualifications

  • No formal education required
  • Basic knowledge in food service from hospital, hotel, restaurant, or related environment
  • Ability to read and understand written and oral communications
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office or similar products
  • Ability to use e-mail and internet

Job Duties

  • Assembles patient and mobile meal trays in accordance with approved diet guidelines and portions while adhering to productivity standards
  • Loads and transports food carts and delivers patient meal trays to rooms following established procedures
  • Provides initial service to cafeteria visitors by serving food and maintaining cleanliness, including operating cash registers and handling cash
  • Performs sanitation and cleaning duties in kitchen and cafeteria areas, washing pots, pans, and dishes
  • Assists with preparation, delivery, setup, cleanup, and presentation of catered and specialized events
  • Prepares snacks, beverages, sandwiches, and other patient food items according to standardized recipes and diet guidelines
  • Prepares, arranges, serves, and replenishes supplies of food, beverages, and condiments in retail and kitchen areas
  • Delivers and stocks nursing units, doctors' lounges, surgery, and emergency rooms following procedures and productivity standards
  • Monitors food temperatures and implements safe food handling practices to prevent foodborne illness
