Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 2-3 years prior production or manufacturing experience or 2+ years relevant lab technician experience
- ability to conduct swab analysis and recommend corrective actions
- ability to read, write and keep accurate records
- proficiency in computer skills including Excel and Word
- ability to work a flexible schedule including Saturdays
- familiarity with lab safety and hazardous materials handling
- capacity to train and coach lab technicians
- must be physically able to perform long periods of walking, standing, kneeling and bending
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- bachelor's degree in science related field preferred
- microbiologist certification a plus or the ability to obtain one within the first 4 weeks of employment
- 2-3 years prior production/manufacturing experience or 2+ years' relevant lab technician experience with the ability to conduct swab analysis and recommend corrective actions
- food/beverage industry experience a plus
- demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
- must be able to train and coach lab technicians when necessary
- ability to read, write and keep records
- good computer skills including literacy with Excel and Word
- familiarity with lab safety and handling of hazardous materials
- must be able to work a flexible schedule to include Saturdays
- other department duties as assigned
Job Duties
- Responsible for collecting micro samples through swabbing of specified areas according to the micro plan
- perform micro plating of water samples and finished product for yeast, mold, total counts and PRY
- monitor and manage micro plates in incubator to ensure appropriate temperature
- read and interpret micro results for water and finished beverages
- discard micro plates appropriately using bio clave or designated trash
- calibration of measuring equipment as needed
- cleaning and organizing the micro lab according to the master sanitation schedule
- perform environmental swabbing in accordance with the sampling plan and scheduling
- plate environmental samples for yeast, mold, total counts and PRY
- read and interpret environmental swab results
- document results of tests on micro count sheets
- ensure compliance with micro test specifications
- escalate any out of specification results to management
- perform root cause analysis and initiate documented corrective actions
- collect investigative samples outside the micro schedule and plan when required
- participate in and lead the facility's laboratory annual proficiency program
- ability to use computer to collect samples and input results
- responsible for micro lab supplies inventory management
- perform other departmental assignments as applicable
