Job Requirements

  • some state job postings say you can qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • bachelor’s degree with a major in biology, food science, home economics, or related field from an appropriately accredited institution
  • ability to learn, apply, and explain state or federal laws or regulations pertaining to food manufacture, storage, distribution, and sale
  • valid driver's license
  • candidate must reside within or be willing to relocate to the designated territory
  • selected applicant will undergo a background check to be commissioned as an Officer with US Dept. of Health & Human Services
  • occasional overnight travel
  • availability for work after hours in emergencies

Job Qualifications

  • bachelor's degree with a major in biology, food science, home economics, or related field from an accredited institution
  • ability to learn and apply federal and state laws and regulations regarding food safety
  • good oral and written communication skills
  • ability to understand food production and processing equipment usage
  • knowledge of food sanitation principles
  • valid driver's license

Job Duties

  • conduct inspections of food manufacturing, storage, and transportation facilities
  • enforce established food safety laws and regulations
  • ensure proper labeling of food products
  • apply principles of food sanitation in the field
  • perform occasional work after hours during emergencies
  • travel within assigned territory for inspection duties
  • collaborate with laboratory branches for product analysis
