Job Requirements

  • Food Handler’s License and First Aid Certificate
  • Good health as evidenced by physical examination
  • Annual TB test confirming free of TB
  • Ability to pass criminal background check and random substance abuse tests
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to work well with others and enjoy working with young children
  • Knowledge of public health regulations and food safety temperatures
  • Ability to use thermometers and understand danger zones
  • Available to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
  • Pass post-offer physical examination
  • Submit to background checks and drug screenings
  • Understand commercial kitchen operations and food preparation for children

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or GED
  • Three years professional cooking experience
  • Ability to perform essential job functions
  • Computer skills for data entry and report generation
  • Familiarity with commercial kitchen operations and equipment
  • Knowledge of sanitation and safety procedures
  • Understanding of First-In, First-Out (FIFO) food storage method
  • Ability to read, comprehend procedures, and complete forms
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Proficient in standardized recipe use and temperature control
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly

Job Duties

  • Lead in preparing salads, vegetables, sauces, etc.
  • Assist in buyer/data entry, storeroom duties, and frozen meal production
  • Coordinate preparation of nutritious foods for infants, toddlers, and pre-school children
  • Monitor food temperatures and quality
  • Assist with scheduling, menu planning, and recipe adherence
  • Requisition food and supplies daily
  • Oversee food assembly for meal distribution
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of workstations and equipment
  • Report equipment malfunctions and maintenance needs
  • Follow safety programs, agency policies, and procedures
  • Assist in production planning and standardizing recipes
  • Receive and stock incoming goods
  • Deliver requisitioned items on schedule
  • Train Food Production Workers I & II
  • Travel for agency business as required
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality
  • Work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Inventory food supplies
  • Deliver food in agency vehicle when necessary
  • Adhere to all personnel policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned
