The Food Prep Assistant position is available within a district-wide school nutrition program, dedicated to providing high quality meals and nutrition services to students across various schools. This role is integral in ensuring daily meal preparation, service, and sanitation meet the strict standards set by the Minnesota Food Code and USDA Guidelines. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to lift up to 38 pounds
- Ability to work on feet for extended periods
- Ability to perform repetitive motions
- Ability to work in a noisy environment
- Dependable attendance
- Ability to follow supervisor directives
- Good communication skills
Job Qualifications
- School food service experience preferred
- Good customer service skills with students, parents and staff
- Serve Safe class within last 3 years or willingness to obtain within 30 days of start date
- SNA Certification Level 1 preferred
- Ability to follow food safety guidelines
- Strong teamwork skills
- Basic computer literacy for point of sale systems
Job Duties
- Work collaboratively with the manager on all aspects of preparation, service, sanitation, recording of meals and clean up
- Understand Minnesota Food Code and USDA Guidelines for School Nutrition
- Competently perform food prep using kitchen equipment including kettles, steamers, mixers, ovens and choppers
- Accurately execute point of sale functions, cash handling and computer programs
- Display honesty, courtesy, compassion and helpfulness when working with others
- Exhibit professional behavior supporting the team, program and district
- Maintain dependable attendance
- Follow directives of supervisors respectfully
- Maintain effective communication to facilitate seamless service
- Participate in contributing towards program improvements
- Adhere to district rules and policies consistently
- Keep written documentation of food items used and temperatures
- Promote participation through welcoming and supportive customer service
- Perform heavy cleaning and inventory of food service area and equipment including dish machine
- Perform other duties as assigned
