- high school diploma or ged
- training in food skills
- at least two years’ experience in food service for an institution such as hospital or hotel

- knowledge of new york state and new york city department of health food safety regulations
- ability to supervise kitchen cleanliness and equipment maintenance
- experience in preparing special dietary meals
- ability to train and instruct others
Job Duties
- assist in the management and monitoring of all aspects of menu development and meal preparation
- prepare low-fat, salt-free, vegetarian and soft meal options to meet special dietary and medically prescribed needs
- manage and perform food and equipment ordering and inventory
- ensure safe and sanitary handling and storage of all food items in compliance with health regulations
- supervise kitchen area cleanliness and maintenance of equipment, utensils, and supplies
- provide instruction and training to inexperienced trainees
- work evening and weekend hours as required
