Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or advanced degree as required by USDA
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license with a responsible driving record
  • Extensive knowledge of institutional food service and federal USDA food program regulations
  • Strong analytical and financial management skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate staff effectively
  • Ability to manage complex programs and maintain professional relationships with high-level officials

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a related major or master’s or doctorate degree in business, food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, or culinary arts
  • Extensive experience in institutional food service operations, management, or nutrition education
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to analyze data and develop policies
  • Experience in budget and financial management
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and database software
  • Recent management experience involving public contact and federal regulatory interaction

Job Duties

  • Manage and supervise Food Distribution Program staff
  • Oversee the distribution of USDA donated foods and funds to public and private entities
  • Coordinate operations for National School Lunch Program, Summer Food Service Program, Emergency Food Assistance Program, and Commodity Supplemental Food Program
  • Conduct grant audits and review funding requests
  • Ensure compliance with federal laws and program reporting requirements
  • Analyze data to recommend policy and program adjustments
  • Maintain relationships with federal agencies and institutional partners
