Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • relevant job-related experience preferred
  • basic math skills including fractions, percent, and ratios
  • ability to follow complex written and oral instructions
  • physical ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs
  • ability to work in temperature extremes
  • California ServSafe Certification preferred
  • valid California driver’s license preferred
  • ability to operate standard office and commercial kitchen equipment
  • ability to work under general supervision and coordinate tasks effectively

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • experience in large-scale cooking and baking
  • knowledge of HACCP protocols and food safety practices
  • ability to adjust recipes and calculate quantities
  • experience operating commercial kitchen equipment
  • effective communication skills
  • ability to guide and mentor other staff
  • basic math proficiency
  • knowledge of sanitation procedures and health standards
  • ability to work as part of a team and adapt to changing priorities

Job Duties

  • prepares and cooks large-scale meals for students and adults
  • prepares foods using approved methods and quantity recipes
  • adjusts recipes using basic math
  • estimates quantity of food needed to meet menu requirements
  • ensures food preparation and serving areas meet sanitary standards
  • supports assigned personnel in food preparation and serving
  • cleans kitchen, utensils, dishes, equipment, and serving areas
  • may function as lead food service worker when required
  • assists in storage and care of foods, supplies, and equipment
  • performs other related duties as assigned
