Job Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • One year of experience in general food service, custodial, bus driving, warehouse, or delivery
  • Valid California Class B driver’s license with air brake certification
  • Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate
  • Valid Food Handler’s Card within 30 calendar days of hire
  • Insurable by the district’s insurance carrier
  • Forklift certification within six months of hire (if required by position)

Job Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • One year of general food service, custodial, bus driving, warehouse, or delivery experience
  • Valid California Class B driver’s license with air brake certification
  • Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate
  • Valid Food Handler’s Card within 30 calendar days of hire
  • Forklift certification within six months of hire (if required by position)
  • Able to operate computerized point-of-sale equipment
  • Knowledge of USDA storage guidelines and California Health Code requirements
  • Ability to lift weights ranging from 40 to 90 pounds and push carts weighing 450 to 550 pounds
  • Strong physical stamina and dexterity
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student and family information

Job Duties

  • Drive a district vehicle on regular, prearranged schedules and routes to deliver and pick up a variety of items related to food and nutrition operations
  • Pick up hot and cold food transport containers, load food onto carts, and deliver to satellite school nutrition centers
  • Pick up leftover food, supplies, materials, and paperwork for transport to production centers and offices
  • Use hydraulic lift-gate and hand dolly to load and unload carts and materials
  • Assist in cleaning kitchen, restroom, offices, storerooms, and walk-in freezers/refrigerators including floors, walls, and shelves
  • Assist in preparing, serving, portioning, and packaging food products
  • Help set up serving lines, salad bars, condiment tables, and kitchen equipment
  • Assist in serving students and adult customers, ensuring food items are at correct temperature
  • Operate computerized point-of-sale equipment, count money, make change, and maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Organize and store food and supplies as required by food safety and health codes
  • Rotate perishable and nonperishable food items and arrange and label stock
  • Inspect incoming merchandise for accuracy and compliance with health standards, reporting discrepancies
  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on kitchen equipment
  • Clean freezer/refrigeration coils and condensers
  • Conduct daily vehicle safety inspections, check fluid levels and tire pressure, clean vehicle, and report maintenance issues
  • Pick up and deliver daily cash deposits following established procedures
  • Follow USDA and California Health Code guidelines for food handling
  • Assist with pickup, delivery, and transfer of excess perishable foods, emergency orders, equipment, and supplies
  • Assist in opening and closing nutrition centers, securing and tagging equipment
  • Maintain security of keys for gates, vehicles, and facilities
  • Assist in training substitute employees
  • Support outdoor food and nutrition barbecues
  • Assist with lifting and moving heavy items as requested
  • Perform related duties as assigned
