Job Description

This job opening is for the position of Food and Nutrition Assistant I at a secondary school nutrition center. The role is designed to support the preparation, packaging, and serving of food, as well as assisting in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards across the nutrition centers. Job Requirements

  • Valid Food Handler's Card issued by an authorized agency within 10 days of hire
  • Ability to prepare, produce, heat, package and serve foods in large quantities
  • Capability to complete assignments within allotted time with minimal supervision
  • Maintain standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and personal hygiene
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
  • Ability to learn to operate a Point of Sale (POS) terminal
  • Ability to perform cashiering duties accurately and swiftly
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively
  • Follow verbal and written directions
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
  • Adhere to prescribed work practices and safety standards

Job Qualifications

  • Basic food preparation knowledge including washing, cutting and assembling food items
  • Familiarity with standard kitchen utensils and equipment
  • Understanding of kitchen sanitation and safety practices
  • Ability to perform basic math and cashiering
  • Interpersonal skills with tact, patience and courtesy
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Basic record-keeping skills

Job Duties

  • Assist in quantity preparation of foods
  • Package and serve foods at assigned school site
  • Assist in maintaining nutrition centers, equipment and utensils in a clean, safe and sanitary condition
  • Assist in the set up of serving areas
  • Perform cashiering duties including operating a point of sale terminal, counting money, and making change
  • Perform basic record-keeping duties
  • Follow health, safety and sanitation standards
