Job Requirements

  • Degree in culinary arts preferred
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in food production or management
  • Serve Safe certification or ability to obtain within 90 days
  • Knowledge of food preparation procedures and dining etiquette
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Customer service orientation
  • Physical ability to perform duties requiring bending, lifting, and standing
  • Ability to work in hot and humid environments
  • Ability to assess food quality by taste and smell

Job Qualifications

  • Degree in Culinary Arts preferred
  • 3 to 5 years' previous experience in food production or management
  • Must have a Serve Safe certification or become certified within 90 days of hire date
  • Must have basic knowledge of food preparation procedures, dining room service etiquette, and related health department regulations
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Familiarity with Internet search tools
  • Strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision

  • Physically able to bend, reach, push, pull, and lift up to 40-50 pounds

Job Duties

  • Responsible for the overall financial and operational functions related to dining room service and culinary operations
  • Creates and plans weekly menus for the independent living communities
  • Follows Dietitian-approved menus for assisted living and memory care communities
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local sanitation regulations
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of all work areas
  • Conducts routine safety and sanitation inspections and communicates action items to leadership
  • Demonstrates attention to detail with regard to food quality, presentation, and dining room environmental standards
  • Develops and maintains food service quality, objectives, and standards
  • Maintains good working relationships with community administrative team members and networks with other communities
  • Prepares all monthly food service reports
  • Maintains food and supply expenses to budget or forecast
  • Places orders for food and supplies through authorized vendors
  • Completes physical food and supply inventories prior to placing orders
  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs the operations in food and beverage services
  • Makes written and oral reports and recommendations to the Executive Director
  • Maintains daily logs of freezer, refrigeration, dishwasher, and food holding temperatures
  • Assures the community kitchen is maintained clean and safe meeting safety and sanitation standards
  • Supports community sales efforts with catering agendas and provides catering services for community-wide programs and private resident affairs
  • Follows all emergency procedures
  • Understands all safety policies and procedures
  • Ensures there is always a 72-hour emergency food and drinking water supply and disposable supply as per regulations
  • Exhibits enthusiasm for working with the senior population
  • Demonstrates creativity, energy, patience, flexibility, and team orientation
  • Displays patience, tact, enthusiasm, and cheerfulness
  • Promotes the community positively and communicates community values
  • Maintains confidentiality of resident care information
  • Manages departmental staffing and labor costs including overtime
  • Recruits, orients, trains, and evaluates culinary services staff
  • Ensures dining room services provider performs contract-specific responsibilities
  • Oversees culinary services calendar regarding holidays and special events
  • Performs other duties as necessary and appropriate
