Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of credited sanitation course with certification
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to teach basic food preparation
  • Experience in supervising personnel
  • Knowledge of child nutrition programs and food safety regulations
  • Competency in computer and money handling skills

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of a credited sanitation course and maintain certification
  • Texas Association of School Nutrition certification Level 2 preferred
  • Knowledge of District Requirements, Child Nutrition Programs, food preparation principles
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to teach basic food preparation
  • Able to manage personnel and maintain confidentiality
  • Computer and money counting skills
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Effective planning and organizational skills
  • Self-motivated and self-directed
  • Completion of Mesquite Food and Nutrition Services Manager-In-Training course preferred
  • One year of school food service experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Knowledgeable of all policies and procedures set by TDA, USDA, and the City of Mesquite Health Department and follows regulations
  • Follows all rules, regulations, policies and procedures of Mesquite ISD, Food and Nutrition Services and follows directives from supervisors and office staff
  • Plans, orders and edits all food and supplies using the current software system
  • Maintains current work and cleaning schedules for Nutrition Specialists, production records, daily and monthly financial records
  • Handles monies taken from students and staff with highest integrity and ensures all deposits in POS accounts and to bank are accurate
  • Trains and evaluates FNS Specialists, Substitutes, New Hires, and Manager-in-Training employees
  • Assesses training needs, designs and implements training materials, conducts training sessions, and evaluates effectiveness
  • Collaborates with FNS staff, managers, and other trainers to align training programs with organizational goals
  • Maintains training documentation, participant attendance, and progress
  • Demonstrates effective communication of training plans and updates
  • Strictly adheres to the chain of command
  • Conducts operational and production management daily
  • Orders food in appropriate amounts to avoid shortages
  • Maintains records on food and supplies received and used
  • Directs daily kitchen and cafeteria activities maintaining a safe and hazard-free environment
  • Ensures food safety and quality guidelines, health codes, and safety regulations compliance during food production
  • Ensures safe storage of food items
  • Maintains serving schedules according to menu specifications
  • Maintains food cost within guidelines
  • Supervises and trains employees ensuring efficiency, morale, and teamwork
  • Creates work orders and maintains equipment maintenance logs
  • Performs HACCP checklist twice yearly
  • Recommends equipment replacements
  • Supervises training on Point of Sale
  • Enforces attendance policy
  • Manages GHG timekeeping system entries and corrections
  • Adheres to dietitian guidelines for nutrition standards
  • Documents 10 hours of professional standard training yearly
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by administration
  • Adheres to MISD and FNS guidelines and policies
  • Provides positive feedback and conflict resolution
  • Maintains consistent and timely attendance
  • Takes responsibility for actions and results
  • Promotes diversity and respects individual contributions
  • Supervises Nutrition Specialists
  • Provides mentorship, coaching, and feedback
  • Evaluates employee performance biannually
  • Responsible for continued kitchen training
  • Meets strict mental and physical demands in a fast-paced environment including walking, standing, bending, handling slippery surfaces, exposure to loud work environments, temperature extremes, and handling weights up to 35 pounds.
