Job Requirements

  • Must have high school diploma or GED or equivalent
  • must obtain California Food Handler Certification within 30 days of hire and recertify every 3 years
  • must successfully pass a functional capacity test after job offer and prior to hire
  • must be able to work 20 hours per week on a variable schedule including weekends, holidays and evenings
  • must maintain professional demeanor and courteous customer service
  • must be physically able to lift 50 pounds and stand for long periods
  • must join labor union upon hire
  • must follow all HACCP procedures and college policies
  • must report to work on time and in uniform at start of each shift

Job Qualifications

  • Any combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to High School Diploma or GED
  • must take and pass California Food Handler Certification within 30 days of hire and recertify every 3 years
  • must pass functional capacity test after job offer and prior to hire
  • experience with food services and hospitality at an academic institution preferred
  • knowledge of kitchen and dishwashing equipment operation and maintenance
  • ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • strong organizational and time management skills
  • ability to lift and move supplies up to 50 pounds

Job Duties

  • Must be California Food Handler certified and recertify every 3 years
  • maintain cleanliness of work in food service areas including floors, walls, trash cans, and worktables
  • receive, sort, and wash soiled trays, dishes, glasses, utensils, pots and pans using dish machine
  • restock trays, dishes, glasses, utensils, pots and pans before, during and after meal periods
  • sweep and mop floors regularly and when spills are present
  • collect and take out trash from service and kitchen areas
  • clean back dock, trash bins, trash cans, and place wet floor signs as needed
  • maintain cleanliness of restrooms
  • assist with loading and unloading trucks
  • assist with setup and strike of dining and banquet rooms
  • provide professional customer service to students, faculty, staff, and external customers
  • follow HACCP guidelines and college health and sanitation policies
  • participate in training sessions and perform special projects, tasks and duties as assigned
