Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or G.E.D. required
  • ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
  • ability to stand, sit, talk or hear regularly
  • valid driver’s license with a good driving record and appropriate insurance
  • ability to work in a non-smoking environment
  • ability to work under the standards set by Head Start, NAEYC, CWLA, CACFP, USDA, Tennessee Day Care Licensing and Porter-Leath
  • maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive issues professionally
  • meet physical demands including close and color vision

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • preferred CDA with Infant Toddler endorsement
  • preferred Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education
  • previous Early Head Start experience is preferred
  • two years of relevant work experience with infants and/or toddlers
  • preferred CPR and First Aid certification
  • knowledge of Health Department standards for food preparation and cleanliness
  • ability to provide care to children birth to 3 and a half years
  • strong oral and written communication skills
  • demonstrated organizational skills
  • ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities
  • teamwork and cooperative abilities

Job Duties

  • prep and serve home-style meals for children in the Early Head Start program according to menu and USDA dietary allowances
  • assist with kitchen operations as needed
  • maintain cleanliness of the kitchen area including washing dishes, cleaning counters and equipment, sweeping and mopping
  • relieve teachers during break periods and serve as classroom substitute as needed
  • maintain and regularly update inventory of food, food supplies and kitchen equipment
  • assist with reporting kitchen information and maintaining records of attendance and meal counts
  • comply with all Health Department, USDA, and Porter-Leath requirements regarding food preparation, storage and cleanliness
  • act as a role model and mentor to families and staff in the program
  • keep Site Manager informed of programmatic issues in a timely manner
  • work cooperatively with other staff to create a positive, enriching, and safe environment for children, families and staff
