Job Duties
- perform a thorough check of the ambulance, work space and supplies at the beginning of each shift and correct any deficiencies found
- complete narcotic accountability form at start of shift
- assist EMT partner with completion of daily unit inspection
- maintain communication with PennSTAR Communications Center as to the status of the ambulance, including maintenance/mechanical issues and phase of transport
- provide patient report as needed
- assist EMS partner with ambulance navigation system
- maintain familiarity with ambulance operations including vehicle security features, operation of emergency lighting, siren, mobile and portable radio, on-board oxygen system, suction unit, fire extinguishers, stretcher and loading system, and UV decontamination system
- report to work on-time in appropriate dress including flight suit, seasonal outerwear, and black duty boots
- maintain professional license, certification, and continuing education to keep unrestricted Medical Command status
- upload required documents into EMS Manager program and maintain credentialing profile without expiration
- respond promptly to requested communications to maintain efficient operation
- complete UPHS required education through Knowledge Link platform
- maintain yearly compliance with required vaccinations including PPD, flu and COVID-19 vaccines
- assist in provision of continuing education programs
- participate in committees as needed
- attend 80% of staff meetings and 100% of required training
- promote organizational values of courtesy, respect, and professionalism towards patients, families, visitors, co-workers, and public safety entities
- complete orientation program established by the PennSTAR Flight Team
- coordinate and supervise safe patient loading and offloading from the ambulance
- participate in debriefs as needed with multidisciplinary teams
- lecture physicians, nurses, EMS staff and other allied health professionals during continuing education programs
- participate in departmental task activities as requested
- meet with specialty groups to provide information and training about Penn Medicine's Division of Trauma or PennSTAR Flight
- integrate care with other healthcare professionals
- transfer patients to receiving unit providing detailed reports on patient findings, changes, and care rendered
- maintain working knowledge of medical equipment including airway management, vascular access, transport ventilator management, IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitor, and defibrillator
- maintain polite and professional demeanor when dealing with patients, coworkers, public safety agencies and hospital staff
- complete required documentation including consent form, certificate of medical necessity, PA transfer of care form, and electronic patient report
- utilize appropriate equipment and assessment techniques based on patient age
- secure infants and children properly
- and obtain parental consent as needed for minors
