Job Requirements
- national Guard membership is required
- males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service
- federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation
- 1- or 2-year probation/trial period may be required
- selectee must wear the military uniform
- acceptance of excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these conditions
- applicants not currently in National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in listed military grade
- participation in direct deposit is mandatory
Job Qualifications
- experience, education, or training interpreting, explaining, and/or applying basic rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of a transportation program
- experience using computer and automation systems
- at least 18 months experience, education, or training arranging and interpreting directives and regulations governing transportation of personnel, cargo or freight
- experience applying directives and regulations governing transportation of personnel, cargo or freight
- experience verifying legal entitlements or official authorizations for travel
- experience securing from carriers guides and timetables, regarding schedules, fares, and availability of space accommodations
- experience planning and organizing the work of others
- enlisted military grades E7 and below
Job Duties
- conduct preflight pilot briefings in accordance with National Guard regulations and directives
- brief pilots on mission, aircraft and flight plan
- brief and provide pilots with information on mission restrictions, on-route navigational facilities and equipment, hazards and terrain
- provide weather forecasts and notices to airmen (NOTAMS) and deviations to flight plans when required
- assure pilot and crew are qualified for aircraft and mission
- complete risk analysis projection
- determine when flight requires higher level approving authority
- sign briefing documents upon completion
- make recommendations to pilot-in-charge when flights should not be attempted
- conduct post mission debriefs
- provide flight following services for local and maintenance test flights
- maintain direct voice communication with aviators in flight
- process extended and local clearances
- clear and transmit flight plans and progress messages to appropriate agencies
- initiate search and rescue for overdue aircraft
- implement crash rescue plan for aircraft accidents
- prepare, maintain and file records, charts, graphs, and reports allied to flight operations and flight training
- compile and summarize reports for analysis
- maintain and account for aircrew training records, medical recommendations, aeronautical orders, physiological training, and aviation service data
- maintain arrival and dispatch records
- schedule and dispatch aircraft and aircrews
- serve as Synthetic Flight Training System (SFTS) coordinator
- maintain current file of aircraft flying regulations and navigational information
- supervise on-the-job training of flight operations personnel
