Job Requirements

  • Graduate of accredited School of Nursing
  • minimum 36 months of recent high-acuity experience in ICU, ER, Flight, or Critical Care Transport settings within the last five years
  • current RN license(s) for state(s) of practice
  • EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required
  • current certifications in BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalents
  • advanced trauma course certification or commitment to complete required training
  • NRP certification before third-rider orientation
  • NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800, and HazMat
  • specialty certification (CFRN or CEN) within 24 months of hire
  • ability to maintain weight under 225 pounds including flight gear
  • flexible schedule including two 24-hour shifts, overtime, and on-call rotation
  • dependable and self-motivated
  • excellent communication skills
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office

Job Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
  • bachelor’s degree in a health-related field preferred
  • minimum three years of recent critical care or emergency nursing experience within the last five years
  • pre-hospital experience preferred
  • flight experience is a plus
  • ability to maintain nursing skills as defined by state scope of practice and medical director standards
  • strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • high critical thinking and reasoning ability
  • effective communication and presentation skills
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • current RN license for state(s) of practice
  • EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required by state regulations
  • current certifications in BLS/CPR, ACLS, PALS or equivalent
  • TPATC/TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS advanced trauma certification if required
  • specialty certification such as CFRN or CEN within 24 months of hire
  • advanced trauma course certification acceptable options include TPATC, TNCC, ATCN, TNATC, or CAMTS-approved course
  • NRP certification before completing third-rider orientation
  • NIMS Training IS 100, 200, 700, 800, and HazMat prior to completing third-rider training

Job Duties

  • Provides nursing care within scope of practice from initial patient contact to transfer at the accepting medical facility
  • maintains thorough patient care documentation
  • maintains competency through ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences
  • communicates educational needs to supervisors
  • manages and maintains medical equipment and supplies
  • reports equipment failures and initiates repairs
  • keeps aircraft clean and ready for rapid response
  • attends pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings
  • completes necessary mission documentation
  • assists pilots with radio, navigation, and observation activities
  • ensures safety of self, patients, medical personnel, and equipment
  • conducts aircraft safety briefings as needed
  • serves as a flight resource for neonatal/pediatric transports
  • performs advanced procedures approved by medical directors
  • participates in patient and referring institution follow-up
  • takes part in outreach marketing and education activities
  • acts as preceptor or assists with orientation of new employees and students
  • participates in Air Methods CBS meetings, research, and projects
  • performs other duties as assigned
