Job Description

This National Guard position is a Title 32 Excepted Service opportunity located at the Oklahoma Army National Guard's Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF 2). The role is specifically for a Flight Engineer (Instructor) tasked with supporting aviation training and operations primarily involving heavy multi-engine aircraft such as the LUH-72 Lakota and UH-60M Black Hawk transport helicopters. Job Requirements

  • National Guard membership is required
  • Membership in a compatible military assignment prior to effective placement date
  • Acceptance of military uniform wear as condition of employment
  • Eligibility for immediate membership and employment in National Guard at specified military grade
  • Federal employment suitability determined by background investigation
  • May require successful completion of probationary period
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory
  • Valid state driver’s license if position requires vehicle operation
  • Ability to obtain security clearance if required
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service

Job Qualifications

  • Military grades E4 through E9
  • Experience assisting pilots in operating aircraft systems such as hydraulic, fuel, electrical, or pressurization
  • Knowledge of aircraft weight and balance computations, aircraft performance data, and maintenance records
  • Specialized experience instructing and performing flight crew work on heavy multi-engine aircraft
  • Ability to provide comprehensive flight training and conduct proficiency evaluations
  • Operational knowledge of complex aircraft systems including propulsion, airframe, electrical, hydraulic and environmental systems

Job Duties

  • Serve as instructor and flight examiner providing instruction and evaluation on ground and operational training flights
  • Assess newly assigned aircrew members' proficiency through review of training and proficiency flight evaluations
  • Plan and conduct aircrew training programs including preparation of formal course outlines
  • Provide training on aircraft systems operation, flight planning, coordination responsibilities, and emergency procedures
  • Administer evaluations to determine examinees' proficiency and perform associated administrative duties
  • Perform Flight Engineer duties including preflight planning assistance, monitoring of aircraft systems and engines, and in-flight operational checks
  • Ensure cargo is properly secured and safety protocols are followed during flight missions
