Job Requirements
- Graduation from high school or possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC certificate
- Four years of experience in diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of gasoline, diesel, or alternate fuel powered equipment
- Additional appropriate education may be substituted for minimum experience
- Valid driver’s license at time of application
- Possession of Colorado commercial driver’s license (CDL A) with appropriate endorsements by end of probation
- Motor vehicle air conditioning certification under section 609 of Clean Air Act by EPA-approved program by end of probation
- Licenses and certifications must be kept current
Job Qualifications
- Associate degree or trade school certification in automotive maintenance or similar
- Eight years of full-time experience in automotive or heavy truck repair and maintenance
- Strong automotive and equipment diagnostics ability with up-to-date training certificates
- Two years of experience working with a fleet management database/workorder process system
- Three to five ASE certifications in automotive or medium/heavy duty truck
- MACS 609 certification in automotive refrigerant servicing and handling
Job Duties
- Conduct routine and annual inspections and perform preventive maintenance on all vehicles
- Train and review the work of lower-level technicians
- Inspect, diagnose, disassemble, remove, clean, and replace defective parts/systems
- Perform minor overhaul of engines and diagnose and repair engine and powertrain control systems
- Perform minor overhaul of front, rear, and all-wheel drive systems including transmissions and differentials
- Diagnose and repair vehicle emission systems and replace braking and traction control systems
- Repair vehicle power plants, electrical systems, charging and starting systems, and hydraulic systems
- Repair HVAC systems, belts, hoses, water pumps, refrigerant recycling, and exhaust systems
- Repair suspension and steering systems and perform wheel alignments
- Repair passive and active restraint systems including collision avoidance and parking aid systems
- Fabricate, weld, and repair parts including design and installation of specialized equipment
- Install and repair specialized safety or city-required equipment such as light bars and sirens
- Observe shop safety standards, respond to field service calls, perform preventive maintenance in shop or field, and participate in snow removal duties
