Job Requirements

  • Repeated physical effort including driving for several hours per day or several hours at a time, standing and walking for extended periods of time, loading and unloading equipment into and out of company vehicles, walking on varying ground surfaces and frequently lifting a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Working from elevated platforms, ladders or truck beds
  • Operating hand/power tools, manual dexterity to operate keyboards and smart phones, physical agility to use arms, legs and hands repetitively
  • Working outdoors, working safely under adverse environmental and weather conditions which include high speed traffic areas, heavy construction equipment, fuel fumes and construction substances
  • Comfortable around vehicles moving through work zones and maintaining constant awareness of surroundings on construction site including placement of machinery and equipment, other employees and construction activities
  • Vision adequate to see moving vehicles, read highway construction MOT signs, read instructions, manuals, reports, and construction plans
  • Hearing adequate to hear approaching vehicles, audible commands at a distance from supervisors, conversations in person, and over the telephone
  • Communicating clearly - both written and verbally, ability to complete daily paperwork as required by supervisor
  • Working a flexible schedule which can include day or night shifts, weekends and/or holidays, adjusting to a changing work schedule, working overtime and working individually and as a team with other employees
  • Valid driver's license required, will require passing MVR and controlled substance test, may require background and criminal record check
  • Must maintain company standards post-employment for background checks, criminal record, driving record and controlled substance/drug testing
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to create accountability and to lead by example
  • Strong team building, decision-making and people management skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Job Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of mechanic experience of diesel and gas engines for on-highway vehicles
  • Light/medium/heavy duty vehicle and trailer repair experience
  • Electrical and drivability diagnostic experience
  • Experience performing annual federal DOT inspections
  • Off-highway equipment experience such as front-end loaders, skid steers, mini excavators, forklifts
  • ASE certification preferred but not mandatory
  • Class A CDL preferred but not mandatory

Job Duties

  • Work on construction vehicle/equipment
  • Determine vehicle/equipment condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests
  • Complete preventive maintenance schedules including installing upgrades and controlling corrosion
  • Correct vehicle/equipment deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major components and systems
  • Verify vehicle/equipment performance by conducting test drives and adjusting systems
  • Comply with federal and state vehicle/equipment requirements
  • Maintain vehicle/equipment appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting
  • Keep shop vehicle/equipment operating by following instructions, troubleshooting, maintaining supplies, and performing preventive maintenance
  • Contain costs by using warranty and evaluating service and parts options
  • Manage inventory by ordering and verifying supplies
