Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Seven to ten years of management experience in relevant fields
  • Ability to work on-site with flexible hours including extended and over 40-hour workweeks as needed
  • Residency in Oregon or Washington
  • No recent termination for cause or resignation in lieu of termination within Metro
  • Ability to work in hybrid telework arrangement and attend office as required
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and operational management experience

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, hospitality management, public administration, organizational leadership, or related field
  • Seven to ten years of specialized or operational management experience in sales, marketing, business development, or guest experience within complex organizations such as convention centers, hospitality, tourism, or public-sector environments
  • Proven executive-level leadership including goal setting, strategy guidance, and performance management
  • Strong financial acumen including budget development and expense management
  • Experience in strategic planning, policy development, and operational initiatives to improve efficiency
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to build trust with internal and external stakeholders
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in leadership and team management

Job Duties

  • Set and lead sales strategy by aligning revenue goals with organizational priorities
  • Manage budgets and use forecasts and performance data to guide decisions and planning
  • Grow venue rental and service revenue through marketing, networking, lead generation, and contract negotiations
  • Serve as the primary client and partner representative, fostering relationships with Travel Portland and other stakeholders
  • Lead and develop the sales team by mentoring staff and coordinating pricing, scheduling, and event bookings
  • Provide strategic leadership for the Guest Experience division to ensure service excellence and client satisfaction
  • Identify and advance new business development opportunities aligned with strategic goals
  • Translate strategy into clear, measurable action plans communicated effectively across teams and partners
  • Build alignment and support with executive leadership, department heads, external partners, and stakeholders to advance shared goals
