Job Requirements
- Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) certificate within six months of application
- valid California Driver's License appropriate for fire apparatus within one year of employment
- California State Firefighter 1 certificate within one year of employment
- State Paramedic card with San Diego County Accreditation
- ability to pass background and medical examinations
- willingness to work under supervision and in hazardous conditions
- ability to perform advanced life support and firefighting duties
- capability to maintain physical fitness
- must attach CPAT and Paramedic License at time of application or email to [email protected]
Job Qualifications
- Any combination of training, education, and experience demonstrating ability to perform duties
- experience at or equivalent to the level of Probationary Firefighter
- possession of Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT) certificate dated within six months of application
- valid California Driver's License for fire apparatus within one year of employment
- California State Firefighter 1 certificate within one year of employment
- State Paramedic card with San Diego County Accreditation required
- ability to perform advanced life support functions
- knowledge of fire suppression and prevention principles
- ability to operate firefighting and medical equipment
- strong communication and interpersonal skills
Job Duties
- Represent the working level firefighting crewmember
- generally operate hoses at fire scenes
- participate in hazardous situations training
- work in potentially hazardous emergency conditions
- perform Fire Engineer duties when qualified and required
- perform ancillary administrative duties in fire prevention, training, and equipment maintenance
- render advanced life support under supervision
- apply paramedic protocols and guidelines
- maintain knowledge of laws and codes governing paramedic practices
- diagnose and treat injuries and illnesses following State and County guidelines
- respond to emergencies and perform fire control activities
- inspect and maintain firefighting equipment and apparatus
- operate firefighting tools and equipment
- use ropes, ladders, and hoses effectively
- receive and transmit alarms
- provide emergency medical care and transport victims
- administer basic and advanced life support
- conduct fire drills and demonstrations
- maintain fire station and grounds
- engage in fire prevention and suppression administrative work
- participate in public information activities
- maintain inventories
- recommend purchase of equipment and station appliances
- maintain physical fitness
- conduct fire prevention inspections
- identify hazards and enforce fire codes
- respond to public complaints and information requests
- operate City vehicles
- perform other related work as required
