Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • One year of specialized experience or education combinations according to GS level
  • Completion of required DoD Fire and Emergency Services certifications
  • Submission of proof of certifications and licenses
  • For GS-06 and GS-07, qualification must be met by experience alone
  • Ability to submit transcripts if qualifying based on education
  • Evaluation of foreign education credentials when applicable
  • Physical and mental fitness to perform firefighting duties
  • Adherence to Special Retirement Coverage provisions
  • Employment under OTHER federal employment type

Job Qualifications

  • Experience controlling or extinguishing fires in military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental firefighting roles
  • Experience conducting rescue operations
  • Experience in fire hazard detection and reduction
  • Experience operating fire communications equipment
  • Experience controlling hazardous materials incidents
  • Experience developing or providing training in fire protection and prevention
  • Possession of DoD Fire and Emergency Services certifications appropriate to the GS level
  • American Heart Association - Healthcare Provider certification
  • State or National Registry EMT License for GS-07 level

Job Duties

  • Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized fire department or brigade
  • Conducting rescue operations
  • Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards
  • Operating fire communications equipment
  • Controlling hazardous materials incidents
  • Developing, implementing, or providing training in fire protection and prevention
