Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Ability to work Saturdays and Mondays as scheduled
  • Availability for continuing education seminars
  • Competency in basic computer skills for record-keeping
  • Respectful and professional demeanor
  • Ability to work with youth and adults of diverse backgrounds

Job Qualifications

  • 3+ years previous coaching experience preferred
  • 5+ years competitive skating experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the U.S. Figure Skating Basic Skills program
  • Knowledge of generally accepted coaching techniques
  • Skill in organizing large groups of skaters
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

Job Duties

  • Provide instruction to youth (ages 3 and up) and adults
  • Demonstrate proper use of equipment, techniques and methods of proper movement
  • Explain and enforce safety, rules and regulations
  • Keep records and help coordinate events
  • Keep management and parents informed of activities and problems
  • Record attendance each class day
  • Instruct students in elements of class level to prepare for evaluation
  • Evaluate students on testing day and complete required forms
  • Input student levels into the computer registration program
  • Encourage appropriate behavior of students
  • Model appropriate behavior respecting facilities, patrons and staff
  • Attend continuing education seminars annually
  • Attend all figure skating staff meetings
  • Aid the skating coordinator in assigned duties
  • Notify absence and arrange for substitute
  • Complete other duties as assigned
