Job Requirements
- Be enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduates and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates
- Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students
- Have a current and complete file with the Office of Financial Aid
- Demonstrate financial need by submitting a FAFSA application annually
- Be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen with an alien registration number
- Meet all requirements stated in TAMIU's Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy
- Must obtain CPR/AED certification within 60 days of employment
- Must obtain First Aid certification within 60 days of employment
- Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions
- Maintain a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace
- Some evening and weekend work may be required
- Work schedules are created by the department without conflicting with class schedules
- Promptly complete all required training
- Input hours worked daily and submit time sheet biweekly
- Position may require moving and lifting objects as necessary
Job Qualifications
- Enrolled at least half-time in a degree program
- Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduates and 3.0 for graduate students
- Demonstrate knowledge in the fitness field or be seeking personal trainer certification
- Ability to obtain CPR/AED and First Aid certifications within 60 days of employment
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team and mentor peers
- Compliance with university policies and procedures
- Ability to handle physical tasks associated with the job
Job Duties
- Assist with the daily operations of the Rec Center (to include Weight Room and Functional Room) and Game Room under supervision
- Assist front desk personnel with marketing and sale of memberships and equipment
- Implement University policies and KWRC guidelines to ensure a safe environment
- Assist with member verification for facility access
- Manage opening and closing procedures of the facility including equipment setup and securing the facility
- Provide inventory control of intramural program equipment and check out procedures
- Mentor and guide new student employees
- Assist Professional staff with outreach programs for schools touring the facility
- Participate in departmental meetings and event setup
- Provide information and recommendations on Fitness Classes
- Maintain a safe and hygienic environment through proper equipment care
- Orient members on facility and equipment usage
- Implement emergency protocol including CPR, evacuation, and severe weather procedures
- Provide excellent customer service
- Perform physical tasks such as moving, lifting, bending, kneeling, and stooping as needed
