Job Requirements

  • Interest in psychology, social services, public administration, nonprofit work, or related fields
  • Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate and 3 credit hours per semester for graduates
  • Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduates students
  • Must have a current and complete file with the Office of Financial Aid
  • Must demonstrate financial need by submitting a FAFSA application annually
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, or permanent residence, or has an alien registration number, an eligible non-citizen
  • Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU's Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP)
  • Position requires face to face interactions
  • Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance in the workplace
  • Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule
  • Promptly complete all required training
  • Input hours worked daily and submit time sheet biweekly
  • Some evening and weekend work may be required
  • Reliable transportation

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to organize and multitask functions to ensure compliance with deadlines

  • Excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills
  • Problem analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to learn and use multiple software programs

Job Duties

  • Assist with client registration and intake during food distribution days
  • Provide direct support to clients, including elderly individuals, to ensure they receive food items accurately and respectfully
  • Offer translation services when needed to support effective communication with clients
  • Support food distribution efforts, including organizing, packing, and handing out food items
  • Assist with inventory organization, tracking, and restocking
  • Help maintain orderly distribution spaces to ensure a smooth and safe process
  • Manage and update client databases accurately
  • Assist with data entry, filing, and documentation related to food assistance programs
  • Support compliance with program requirements such as TEFAP guidelines
  • Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners
  • Provide support during high-volume service days in a fast-paced environment
  • Represent the South Texas Food Bank with professionalism and compassion
