The Farmers Market Assistant position is offered by the Cooperative Extension department in Monroe, North Carolina. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or acceptable equivalency diploma (GED)
  • no required experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • valid driver’s license and ability to maintain safe driving history
  • availability to work Saturdays (April to December)
  • ability to assist with Food Hub operations on Thursdays
  • basic computer skills
  • digital marketing experience via social media
  • digital design skills including Canva experience
  • self-motivated with strong communication, customer service, and conflict resolution skills

Job Duties

  • Coordinates and facilitates the Saturday Farmers Market each week
  • emails vendors about weekly participation, assigns vendor space, and sends layout to vendors
  • focuses on market curation and the shoppers experience by coordinating extra-curricular activities during the market day, including food trucks, kid and family friendly activities, cooking demos
  • works on-site during market hours overseeing the market and answering vendor questions
  • provides in-person customer service, processes SNAP and EBT transactions, and directs vendor and customer inquiries to the Local Foods Manager
  • keeps organized and accurate records of EBT/SNAP transactions and closes terminal batch daily
  • collects weekly and annual rental fees from vendors
  • builds and maintains positive relationships with vendors and customers
  • assists with maintaining a clean and inviting market
  • leads and works in a team environment, communicating ideas, identifying problems, providing feedback, and offering creative solutions
  • enforces market rules and regulations
  • organizes annual enrollment of vendors
  • collaborates with Food Hub Coordinator for seasonal farm inspections
  • performs Food Hub operations as needed, including product aggregation, packing orders, and assisting with deliveries
  • performs other related duties as assigned
