Job Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of GED equivalency diploma
  • basic janitorial and/or maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • must obtain a valid Florida driver’s license prior to hire
  • ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • physical capability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor
  • ability to lift, carry, push or pull objects up to 50 pounds
  • capability to endure exposure to noise, chemicals, unpleasant odors, and environmental substances
  • ability to walk, stand, sit for prolonged periods
  • ability to climb, balance, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, twist, and perform repetitive hand movements
  • ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations

Job Qualifications

  • knowledge of custodial and landscape maintenance materials and methods

  • skill in the use and care of hand tools and maintenance equipment

Job Duties

  • Performs unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks for park and recreation facilities and buildings
  • operates electric and gasoline powered tools including string trimmers, edgers, chain saws, pumps, lawnmowers and hand held power tools
  • assists maintenance and sprinkler mechanics with carpentry, painting, cement, fencing and irrigation work
  • performs minor landscaping, gardening, and custodial duties
  • cleans and disinfects restrooms and restocks supplies
  • moves furniture and equipment for meeting and banquet set-up and take-down
  • cleans spills and enforces rental agreements
  • inspects facilities regularly and removes safety hazards, graffiti, and vandalism signs
  • prepares documentation and reports on deficiencies, hazards, and incidents
  • assists the public with facility information, rules, dispute resolution, and first-aid supplies
  • performs related duties as assigned
