The Cooperative Extension Service (CES) in Lea County, New Mexico, is a vital part of New Mexico State University (NMSU) that serves the community by providing research-based, practical knowledge and educational programs aimed at improving the quality of life for county residents. Job Requirements

  • Master&apos
  • s degree or bachelor&apos
  • s degree with plans to complete master&apos
  • s within five years
  • relevant education in Home Economics, Family and Consumer Science, Nutrition, Health Education, Family and Child Development or related field
  • minimum GPA of 2.5 for entry level
  • must live in the county of employment
  • willing to work odd hours as needed
  • personal auto with valid driver&apos
  • s license
  • ability to travel extensively within the county
  • ability to handle moderate physical effort
  • willing to follow safety precautions in a work environment with some exposure to hazards

Job Qualifications

  • Master&apos
  • s degree in Home Economics, Family and Consumer Science, Nutrition, Health Education, Family and Child Development or a related field that includes emphasis in youth education and community health
  • experience in developing and delivering educational programs for adult and youth audiences
  • strong collaboration and communication skills
  • ability to recruit, train and support volunteers
  • capability to work effectively within a team of Extension Agents
  • experience with program planning, implementation and reporting
  • knowledge of community resources and stakeholder engagement
  • valid driver&apos
  • s license and personal transportation
  • ability to manage moderate physical activity as required

Job Duties

  • Conduct Family & Consumer Science programming in both adult and youth audiences in the areas of nutrition, family and health
  • work closely with the County Agricultural Agent to develop, promote and deliver 4-H programming
  • support county fair efforts
  • collaborate with community organizations and agencies to help further Extension Family & Consumer Science programs
  • recruit, train and support volunteer adult and youth leaders
  • team with other Extension Agents to plan and implement total Extension programs
  • maintain a favorable public image and gain acceptance for self, Extension and New Mexico State University among the county citizens
  • provide timely reports as required
  • travel county wide via personal vehicle to execute educational programming to the stakeholders of New Mexico
  • promote CES programs within the district to meet the LEADS 2025 goals prioritizing the program expansion to non-traditional demographics
  • foster collaborations and participate in activities and on research teams that support the work of the Center of Excellence in Food and Sustainable Agriculture (CESFAS)
