Job Requirements
- Successful completion of Whole Foods Market Butcher Apprentice Program or equivalent training program
- expert meat cutting experience usually resulting from 3-5 years of full-time butcher experience
- proven track record of training and mentoring other Butchers or Apprentice Butchers
- ability to lift 50 pounds
- ability to stand and walk 6-8 hours per 8-hour workday
- ability to use hands for grasping, manipulation, pushing, and pulling
- ability to perform motions including bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching
- exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals
- ability to work in temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit
- ability to work in wet and cold environments
- ability to handle knives and cutting equipment safely
- ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays
- ability to use tools and equipment such as box cutters and electric pallet jacks
Job Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of meat and poultry, product claims, cooking techniques, and product origins
- knowledge of living conditions of animals and ability to educate the public
- excellent cutting skills with ability to break down products into sub-primal and retail cuts
- strong organizational skills and ability to delegate work
- strong communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team
- ability to deliver information clearly and respectfully

Job Duties
- Maintain Whole Foods Market gig policies, standard operation procedures, and quality standards
- perform all aspects of meat cutting including achieving margin and preventing shrink
- prepare special orders and custom requests following assigned trimming specifications
- cut, platter, and merchandise products including beef, pork, lamb, veal, bison, poultry, sausage, oven ready products, and cured meats
- ensure accuracy of signs and pricing
- train and mentor other Butchers and Apprentice Butchers
- supervise and delegate tasks to Meat Team Members, Apprentice Butchers, and Butchers
- act as point person and departmental person in charge in the absence of Team Leadership
- assist Team Leadership with ordering and inventory management including submitting orders
- provide excellent customer service and address customer needs in a timely and effective manner
- maintain clean and sanitary working and shopping environment
- maintain equipment according to cleanliness and safety standards
- perform opening, mid, and closing duties
- immediately report safety hazards and violations
- perform other duties assigned by store, regional, or national leadership
