Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work history
  • Three to five years professional experience in relevant industries
  • Minimum five years experience in management of design, fabrication, welding, and installations
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • In-depth knowledge of theatrical technical equipment and programming
  • Experience in one or more specialties including theatrical lighting, projection, audio systems, architectural lighting, visual and creative programming environments, electrical engineering, creative technology, and network engineering
  • Proven troubleshooting skills with embedded systems
  • Proficiency in show lighting programming
  • Advanced knowledge of network engineering and IT
  • Programming knowledge in languages such as Python, C/C++, JavaScript, Java
  • Ability to configure and manage Linux, Mac, and Windows operating systems
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols
  • Experience with projector and media server troubleshooting

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work history in project management, technical direction, design development and installation, engineering or a related field
  • Three to five years professional experience in emerging technology, entertainment technology, software development, electrical engineering, or professional audiovisual trades
  • Minimum of five years experience in managing design through fabrication, welding, and installations
  • Experience managing multiple projects and prioritizing work streams
  • In-depth knowledge of theatrical technical equipment, computers, data backbones, and programming
  • Experienced in theatrical lighting, projection, video systems, audio systems, architectural lighting systems, visual programming environments, creative programming environments, electrical engineering, creative technology, physical computing, and network engineering principles
  • Demonstrated competency troubleshooting and repairing embedded systems
  • Show lighting programming experience with ETC systems and HOG Full Boar consoles
  • Advanced understanding of network engineering and IT infrastructure
  • Familiarity with supplemental programming languages such as Python, C/C++, JavaScript, Java, and frameworks like OSC
  • Comfortable configuring and administering Linux, Mac, and Windows computers
  • Strong safety knowledge related to lighting and electrical equipment
  • Experience troubleshooting projectors and media servers

Job Duties

  • Manage exhibition art and scenic elements and equipment within the technical engineering department
  • Oversee all technical aspects of exhibits and events hosted by the venue
  • Support execution of exhibit projects, redesigns, and upgrades
  • Fabricate, assemble, and deliver projects on time
  • Manage scenic and technical contractors, suppliers, and vendors
  • Manage, schedule, plan, and execute operational, logistical, and financial aspects of the department
  • Lead exhibition maintenance and inspection post opening
  • Maintain maintenance and inspection database to monitor equipment condition
  • Manage repair and replacement of equipment within budgetary constraints
  • Procure, program, install, maintain, and design necessary equipment
  • Establish and maintain safety protocols and ensure compliance with building codes
  • Make recommendations regarding capital purchases, budgets, team training, and external vendors
  • Maintain exhibit and back of house spaces in a safe, organized, and clean state
  • Strategically schedule staff and manage financial documentation
  • Ensure availability of spare parts and inventory
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technological and scenic problems
  • Perform digital fabrication and 3D modeling
  • Program sound reinforcement, install rigging, electrical and electronics equipment
  • Assist in training staff for technical engagement
  • Oversee punch-lists and project closeout procedures
  • Act as liaison with internal and external artists
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
