Job Requirements
- High school diploma preferred but ability to read and write English required
- previous experience in the dietary department of a health care facility preferred
- ability to prepare and cook a variety of foods in large quantities
- awareness of special diets, seasoning requirements, cooking times, temperature controls
- ability to estimate food quantities, limit waste, and utilize leftovers
- scheduled to work 24 or more hours per week
- compliant with federal and state regulations and company policies

Job Duties
- Handle and prepare food that is palatable, appetizing, and attractive
- comply with meal schedules
- follow standard recipes but make independent decisions based on experience
- understand importance of proper food-handling techniques and hazards of improper food handling
- estimate quantities of food required and apportion servings while monitoring portion control
- prepare foodstuffs for cooking including peeling, washing, trimming, and cutting
- cook food by baking, roasting, stewing, and steaming
- taste and observe food to ensure conformity with recipes and appearance
- serve food according to dietary guidelines checking each tray for accuracy
- prepare cold meats, sandwiches, griddle cakes, cooked cereals, and beverages
