Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Food Handler's Card
  • SERVSAFE Manager Certification within 30 days of employment
  • Minimum 3 years culinary leadership experience preferred
  • Ability to work extended periods standing and walking
  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in environments exposed to heat, cold, steam, and cleaning chemicals
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Ability to follow state health department regulations and safety protocols
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to use hands and arms for food preparation and equipment operation
  • Ability to occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl

Job Qualifications

  • Graduate of culinary school or recognized culinary apprentice program, preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in culinary leadership positions
  • Experience with production, senior living, or healthcare culinary environments preferred
  • Valid Food Handler's Card required
  • SERVSAFE Manager Certification required within 30 days of employment
  • Knowledge of therapeutic and restricted diets common in assisted living settings
  • Demonstrated experience in quantity food production in healthcare or senior living settings
  • Knowledge of purchasing, inventory control, receiving, and storage procedures
  • Understanding of nutrition principles and clinical diet guidelines
  • Strong coaching and supervisory skills
  • Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, Google Workspace
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

Job Duties

  • Prepares, portions, and garnishes food according to standardized recipes and nutritional guidelines appropriate for older adults
  • Establishes kitchen workflows, prep lists, and production assignments
  • Provides coaching and feedback to BOH staff to maintain safety, food quality, and efficiency
  • Maintains high standards of food quality, presentation, and portion control
  • Ensures compliance with standardized recipes including therapeutic and texture-modified diets
  • Trains BOH staff on safe food handling, allergen protocols, and equipment use
  • Prepares and carves meats, soups, sauces, and specialty dishes for daily menus and events
  • Monitors equipment performance, production flow, and food usage recommending improvements
  • Ensures compliance with health regulations, infection control, and sanitation policies
  • Supports FOH dining service operations, ensuring timely meal delivery and menu communication
  • Assists in training FOH team on plating, expo procedures, portion accuracy, and dietary guidelines
  • Monitors service flow to ensure resident satisfaction
  • Supports FOH operations during peak times and staffing shortages
  • Collaborates on quality improvement initiatives
  • Engages with residents, families, and guests professionally
  • Manages BOH staff scheduling and supports FOH scheduling
  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and skills development for culinary and dining staff
  • Supports onboarding and training of new employees
  • Completes performance evaluations and addresses performance issues
  • Leads or participates in daily pre-service meetings
  • Fosters a positive, collaborative, and inclusive work environment
