Job Requirements

  • Culinary Arts Degree or equivalent technical experience
  • Four to six years experience as a chef managing culinary teams
  • Knowledge of HACCP and ServSafe standards
  • Experience leading and developing management and culinary staff
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to maintain quality and safety standards
  • Knowledge of diverse culinary techniques
  • Ability to work autonomously with high accuracy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with food production software
  • Experience with kitchen equipment maintenance
  • Budget management skills
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and food ordering platforms
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Physical ability to meet job demands including lifting and standing for extended periods

Job Qualifications

  • Culinary Arts Degree from an accredited institution or equivalent technical experience
  • Minimum of 4-6 years experience as a chef managing teams of 15-20 associates
  • Knowledge of health department rules and regulations including HACCP and ServSafe
  • Ability to lead and develop management and culinary teams
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and people-management skills
  • Knowledge of culinary techniques including hot, cold, ambient, sous vide, aspic, garde manger, display cooking, and buffet presentations
  • Ability to work independently with accuracy and manage multiple priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with diverse populations
  • Basic knowledge of computerized food production systems
  • Experience with maintenance of kitchen equipment such as ovens, mixers, slicers, smokers, grills, and kettles
  • Experience with budgeting, financial analysis, and strategic planning
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, and food ordering systems
  • Valid Driver's License

Job Duties

  • Oversee planning and managing menus for dual residential colleges reflecting market shifts and budget requirements
  • Responsible for food purchasing, production, inventory, and presentation while leading and motivating the dining team
  • Maintain quality and safety control on all menu items ensuring high guest satisfaction
  • Lead sustainability and wellness initiatives by planning fresh, seasonal, local menus and exploring new food trends
  • Create globally inspired and heritage month menus reflecting customer diversity
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director of Residential and culinary staff on menu planning and themed events
  • Manage staffing, training, performance evaluations, and compliance with union and university policies
  • Ensure food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety compliance
  • Monitor kitchen equipment maintenance and safety
  • Manage budgeting, food cost controls, and financial performance
  • Provide leadership and training for culinary personnel
  • Support and participate in Campus Dining events
  • Foster client relationships and community building within the university dining services
