Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 3-5 years kitchen management experience
  • Proven track record of controlling food costs and labor management
  • Professional appearance and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use MS Office software
  • Current Food Handler's card and alcohol permits as required
  • Experience in employee scheduling and staff development
  • Certification in a recognized sanitation program
  • Knowledge of food preparation standards and safety protocols
  • Effective communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years kitchen management experience in a full-service restaurant or events venue
  • Demonstrated and verifiable track record of meeting projected costs
  • Professional appearance and presentation
  • Proficient with computer software including MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Maintains current Food Handler's card and alcohol service permit if required
  • Working knowledge of employee scheduling in a hospitality environment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certification in nationally recognized sanitation program
  • Technical proficiency and verifiable knowledge of food preparation methods
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to train, evaluate, motivate and counsel staff effectively
  • Ability to delegate responsibilities to meet objectives
  • Problem-solving skills with creative and expeditious solutions

Job Duties

  • Manage, develop and mentor full-time and part-time culinary staff including employment actions such as hiring, firing and disciplining
  • Ensure staff awareness of workplace expectations and provide ongoing training, coaching and mentoring to promote a positive and cooperative work environment
  • Control food costs by implementing portion controls, kitchen timings, inventory rotation, purchasing procedures and waste control
  • Manage labor costs through effective scheduling, cross-training and monitoring break documentation
  • Oversee food preparation to maintain quality, consistency and compliance with standards and recipes
  • Supervise line set-up, prep and breakdown activities and delegate tasks to kitchen personnel
  • Coordinate storage, maintenance and repair of kitchen equipment to ensure operational readiness
  • Arrange delivery and set-up of catered services and food service areas
  • Organize kitchen staff skills training and departmental orientation of new employees
  • Maintain positive and compliant employee relations by staff training, evaluation and counseling
  • Ensure compliance with health, sanitation, safety and employment regulations
  • Maintain kitchen record-keeping including food inventories and invoicing
  • Organize employee work schedules and ensure compliance with uniform policy
  • Promote teamwork through effective communication and goal setting
  • Oversee the timely production of staff meals ensuring health and nutritional standards
