Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 5-7 years kitchen management experience
  • Proven ability to control food and labor costs
  • Professional appearance
  • Proficient with computer software including MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Valid Food Handler's card and alcohol service permit if applicable
  • Ability to schedule employees in hospitality environment
  • Certification or ability to obtain certification in sanitation
  • Strong food preparation knowledge
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience training and developing staff
  • Ability to delegate and solve problems
  • Strong decision-making skills

Job Qualifications

  • Demonstrated track record of meeting projected costs
  • Professional appearance and presentation

  • Current Food Handler's card and alcohol service permit if required
  • Knowledge of employee scheduling in hospitality
  • Certification in a nationally recognized sanitation program
  • Technical proficiency in food preparation methods
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to develop staff through training, coaching and counseling
  • Capability to delegate responsibility effectively
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends and long hours

Job Duties

  • Manage, develop and mentor culinary staff including hiring, firing and disciplining
  • Ensure event staff understand workplace expectations and provide ongoing training and mentoring
  • Control food costs through portion control, kitchen timings, inventory management and waste control
  • Monitor labor costs by scheduling kitchen staff and managing break documentation
  • Ensure purchasing and food preparation meet quality and consistency standards
  • Supervise line set-up, prep and breakdown activities
  • Coordinate kitchen equipment maintenance and repair
  • Manage delivery and set-up of catered services
  • Arrange staff training and orientation and build morale
  • Maintain positive employee relations and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Oversee kitchen record keeping including food inventories and invoicing
  • Organize employee schedules and enforce uniform policy
  • Promote teamwork through communication and leadership
  • Oversee production of staff meals according to calendar
