Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in culinary arts, hospitality management, food science or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years culinary management experience, ideally in healthcare or institutional settings
  • Proficient knowledge of HACCP and food safety standards
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities
  • Experience managing budgets and controlling costs
  • Ability to work flexible hours including early mornings, late nights, and occasional long days
  • Physical ability to perform all aspects of food service including lifting and standing for long periods
  • Excellent communication skills across all organizational levels
  • Capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, Hospitality Management, Food Science, or related field preferred
  • Extensive experience in culinary management, preferably in healthcare or large institutional settings
  • Proven leadership skills with experience managing diverse teams
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP, food safety, and regulatory compliance
  • Ability to develop innovative, health-focused menus
  • Budget management and cost control expertise
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain high standards of food quality and presentation

Job Duties

  • Oversees all aspects of culinary planning and production for retail, patient, and catering menus
  • Collaborates with the culinary team to develop world class, health and wellness focused menus and recipes
  • Plans and develops a culinary specific quality improvement and assurance (QIA) program and executes departmental standards
  • Ensures adherence to mission, vision, and values of the Food and Nutrition Services Department and NYU Langone Health
  • Maintains a positive work environment, promoting employee engagement and satisfaction
  • Ensures sanitary, safe, and efficient food service operations complying with regulatory requirements
  • Participates in budget development and management including cost saving and revenue generation strategies
  • Directs daily food production operations, including purchasing, inventory, and food preparation
  • Ensures kitchen, equipment, and storage facilities meet regulatory compliance
  • Manages HACCP, food safety, and personnel procedures in line with city, state, and federal regulations
  • Provides feedback, conducts performance evaluations, and supervises managers and staff
  • Oversees hiring, training, coaching, and counseling of union and non-union staff
  • Maintains staff schedules, job descriptions, and assignments
  • Ensures compliance with clinical and dietary food regulations
