Job Requirements

  • Possesses a high school diploma
  • Holds a culinary degree or equivalent fine dining experience of at least 7 years
  • Has at least one year dining services experience in a supervisory capacity
  • Is ServSafe, Level II certified
  • Knowledgeable of dining services procedures relating to retirement community operations
  • Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Able to see and hear or use prosthetics that enable these senses
  • Capable of leading and supervising professional and non-professional team members
  • Able to work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and occasionally hostile individuals
  • Able to move equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs regularly
  • Fully up-to-date with required vaccinations

Job Qualifications

  • Possesses a high school diploma

  • Demonstrates leadership ability
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work with diverse populations including elderly, ill, and disabled individuals
  • Capable of managing budgets and controlling costs
  • Proficient in staff training, mentoring, and team development
  • Skilled in menu creation and food preparation oversight
  • Familiar with health and safety regulations applicable to food services

Job Duties

  • Collaborates with the Dining Services Director in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the Dining Services department, its programs and activities
  • Responsible for directing the department in the absence of the Director
  • Ensures a fine dining experience by designing, creating, and updating innovative and seasonal menus
  • Oversees daily food preparation and service to ensure proper procedures are followed
  • Maintains adequate inventory of food supplies and equipment while monitoring and controlling food and labor costs
  • Maintains records of department expenditures including food costs, inventory, and meal counts
  • Supervises dining services team members ensuring compliance with policies and promotes a positive work environment
  • Develops, coordinates, and maintains good working relationships within the department and with other community departments
  • Leads daily staff meetings and conducts food quality assessments with resident interaction
  • Assists in the development and control of the department budget
  • Ensures maintenance and preventive care of kitchen equipment
  • Implements training and development programs for team members
  • Collaborates with Human Resources on staff development plans
  • Attends continuing education programs
  • Assists with recruitment, mentoring, and evaluation of staff
  • Performs administrative duties such as completing reports and monitors
  • May perform duties of dining services team members to ensure quality
  • Reports incidents and accidents as per policy
  • Assists in menu planning and scheduling
  • Mentors the Culinary Experience Partner at the Deupree Cottages as needed
