Job Qualifications

  • A.S. degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years progressive culinary/kitchen management experience
  • Extensive catering experience preferred
  • Experience with high volume, complex foodservice operations
  • Knowledge of institutional and batch cooking
  • Hands-on chef experience required
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food and catering trends including quality, production, and cost control
  • Proficient with computers including Microsoft Office, Outlook, email, and internet
  • ServSafe certification highly desirable
  • Experience in client satisfaction programs or activities

Job Duties

  • Lead daily culinary production including food preparation, food quality and presentation, safety, and sanitation standards
  • Create visually appealing decorative food displays
  • Provide direction on menu development aligned with product availability
  • Source fresh food and monitor product freshness
  • Maintain consistency through inspections of seasonings, portions, and food appearance
  • Prepare and cook foods for regular and special occasions
  • Demonstrate new cooking techniques and equipment to staff
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of kitchen staff
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Set performance standards and monitor employee performance
  • Communicate safety procedures and ensure employee understanding
  • Monitor quality of raw and cooked food products
  • Maintain purchasing, receiving, and food storage standards
  • Participate in developing and implementing business strategies
  • Manage departmental controllable expenses including food cost and supplies
  • Analyze financial and operational data to adjust business plans
  • Develop and manage departmental budget to meet financial goals
  • Identify major revenue and expense opportunities and challenges
  • Oversee food inventory, purchasing, and distribution
  • Schedule staff according to forecasted volumes
  • Create 100 percent resident satisfaction through team training and resources
  • Maintain professional engagement with residents and staff
  • Improve service quality through communication and coaching
  • Empower employees to deliver excellent customer service
  • Foster teamwork and respond to guest complaints
  • Lead team meetings and set performance goals
  • Solicit and respond to employee feedback
