The role of Executive Chef at Fountainwood at Lake Houston is a pivotal leadership position within the Discovery Management Group. This full-time opportunity, based in Atascocita, TX, offers a competitive salary range of $77,000 to $80,000 and involves working primarily onsite with little to no travel required. The Executive Chef is responsible for managing all culinary operations while remaining actively involved in food preparation and kitchen management. The job includes creating diverse and high-quality menus tailored to the preferences, cultural backgrounds, and nutritional needs of senior residents, which enhances their dining experiences in a meaningful way. Beyond meal preparation, the Executive Chef manages vendor relations, inventory control, budgeting, and sanitation standards to maintain excellence and compliance with regulatory requirements. This role also requires leadership in staff training and scheduling, fostering a positive and service-oriented team culture that upholds hospitality standards.

Additional responsibilities include coordinating special events and themed meals in partnership with community leadership and activities teams, overseeing kitchen equipment maintenance, and addressing resident and family feedback to continuously improve service quality. With a schedule generally from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and manager-on-duty rotation about every six weeks, this role demands flexibility and readiness to respond promptly as needed. Job Requirements

  • Proficiency with kitchen management systems and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to respond to feedback and drive continuous improvement
  • Manager food handler certification

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of culinary leadership experience in high-volume, high-standard environments such as country clubs, resorts, or cruise ships
  • Hands-on experience leading kitchen operations including cooking, presentation, and plating standards
  • ServSafe or food safety certification required
  • Strong knowledge of sanitation practices, food safety regulations, and proper equipment use
  • Proven ability in menu development, cost control, vendor management, and inventory systems
  • Experience managing special events, banquets, and/or catering
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and kitchen management systems
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in senior living culinary services is a plus when paired with demonstrated high service standards
  • Manager food handler certification

Job Duties

  • Lead day-to-day kitchen operations while actively participating in meal preparation and service
