Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in nutrition, food service management, hospitality or related field preferred
- Minimum of three years of progressively responsible food service management experience
- Certified ServSafe Food Protection Manager or ability to obtain certification
- Knowledge of applicable local, state and federal laws and regulations related to food service
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds
- Valid driver's license to travel between sites
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to conduct training and supervise personnel effectively
- Commitment to maintaining a safe and sanitary food service environment.
Job Qualifications
- Experience managing food service operations in a school district or similar environment
- Knowledge of California Department of Education and USDA food service regulations
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills
- Ability to develop menus and recipes following nutritional guidelines
- Skills in procurement, inventory management and budget oversight
- Familiarity with sanitation, safety standards and ServSafe certification
- Experience training and evaluating food service personnel
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in computer use and office software
- Ability to prepare reports and maintain records
- Understanding of food quality and portion control standards
- Commitment to promoting nutrition and sustainability programs
- Ability to represent the department in media and community outreach.
Job Duties
- Plan, organize and manage the district's daily food service production, distribution and service
- Assist in managing compliance with California Department of Education and USDA regulations
- Develop, plan and create menus and recipes
- Oversee procurement, recycling and compost management
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel
- Coordinate inventory, cashiering and sanitation functions
- Conduct training and performance evaluations
- Develop quality control standards and ensure their implementation
- Manage food supply estimation, ordering, storage and rotation
- Organize cleaning and maintenance of kitchen facilities and equipment
- Assist with budget development and financial monitoring
- Provide technical training and support
- Coordinate food service operations at school sites and central kitchen
- Develop and maintain procedural manuals, recipes and related documents
- Represent the Nutrition Services program to external media and community
- Prepare and maintain reports, records and files related to food service activities
- Ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards
- Respond to inquiries and provide technical information about food service operations.
