Job Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preference for coursework from accredited college or university in public administration, engineering, transportation, planning, or related field
  • Preference given to Miami Beach residents
  • Availability for shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays in four-hour increments
  • Physical capability to operate office equipment and electronic devices
  • Ability to perform significant physical activity including walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, reaching, sitting, standing, pushing, and pulling
  • Ability to drive an automobile and perform on-site inspections at locations not accessible to the physically handicapped
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse populations
  • Strong understanding of ethical behavior
  • Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance
  • Ability to develop innovative and creative solutions consistent with the city’s strategic plan
  • Applicants must detail related work experience on application
  • Veterans preference must be claimed with proper documentation
  • Qualified applicants required to complete computerized assessment test

Job Qualifications

  • Strong observational and reporting skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations
  • Preference for coursework in public administration, engineering, transportation, planning, or related fields
  • Ability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Commitment to ethical behavior and public service
  • Physical ability to conduct extensive walking, climbing, bending, and on-site inspections
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions consistent with city strategic plans

Job Duties

  • Conduct field inspections to assess cleanliness and appearance of public areas including parks, beaches, streets, sidewalks, alleys, public garages, public restrooms, and public transportation
  • Use electronic handheld devices to record observations and ratings
  • Apply Cleanliness Index standards to evaluate litter, trash, garbage cans, organic materials, and fecal matter
  • Utilize Appearance Index to rate sidewalks, roadways, turf, and plant beds
  • Perform Mystery Rider evaluations to assess public transportation experience including stop locations, cleanliness, amenities, reliability, safety, customer service, and maintenance
  • Rate parking garages on cleanliness, parking area, stairwells, pavement, ticket stations, signage, lighting, plant beds, elevators, and customer service
  • Evaluate public restrooms for cleanliness, appearance, odor, trash, sanitation, and supplies
  • Attend special magistrate hearings as required for appeals of code violations
  • Participate in the Service Shopper program to assess customer service quality across city departments
