Job Requirements

  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment

  • Ability to sit, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch and climb stairs frequently
  • Ability to lift, carry, push or pull 11-25 pounds frequently
  • Ability to climb ladder or step-stool occasionally
  • Ability to lift, carry, push or pull 25-50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle occasionally
  • Use clear and audible speaking voice and hear normal speech level

  • Availability to work second shift with variable days including every other weekend and holidays
  • Ability to conduct all activities with professionalism and confidentiality

Job Qualifications

  • Preferred high school diploma or GED or equivalent education and experience
  • CHEST certification required within 6 months of hire (certification coursework provided)
  • Preferred prior professional janitorial or housekeeping experience
  • Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Ability to follow hospital cleaning standards and patient safety protocols
  • Strong attention to detail and dedication to maintaining a safe environment
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to teamwork and continuous improvement principles

Job Duties

  • Inspects assigned areas during shift for cleanliness and makes proper corrections to ensure sanitation
  • Follows guidelines and job standards for cleaning established by department management and hospital
  • Performs cleaning tasks according to the St. Charles Health System Environmental Services Standards
  • Cleans toilets, basins, showers, bathtubs, walls, furniture, fixtures, doors, stairways, halls and other interior furnishings using appropriate supplies and procedures
  • Sweeps, cleans, mops, scrubs and dusts floors of assigned areas
  • Transports, removes and disposes of soiled linen, trash and bio-medical waste appropriately
  • Labels and removes infectious waste bags and containers
  • Maintains stock of supplies and operates and maintains cleaning equipment and industrial vacuums
  • Reports equipment concerns to ensure functionality
  • Fosters positive working relationships with patients, guests and other caregivers
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities
  • Reports needed repairs or services to hospital facilities
  • Performs special cleaning projects and various types of floor care
  • Supports the vision, mission and values of the organization and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients and guests
  • Conducts activities professionally and with confidentiality while complying with laws and policies
  • Delivers customer service and patient care in a manner promoting goodwill and efficiency
  • May perform additional duties of similar complexity as assigned
