Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior experience in housekeeping or environmental services preferred
  • Ability to comply with health and safety regulations
  • Capability to perform physical tasks including lifting and standing for long periods
  • Successful completion of background checks and screenings
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and patients
  • Willingness to adhere to facility attendance policies
  • Commitment to patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
  • Completion of required vaccinations and health screenings as per facility policy
  • Availability to attend mandatory safety training and drills

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in environmental services or housekeeping preferred
  • Knowledge of infection control standards and procedures
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Basic understanding of safety and sanitation protocols
  • Ability to handle physical demands of the job
  • Commitment to professionalism and respectful patient interaction
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development
  • Surgical Tech certification is a plus but not required

Job Duties

  • Treats everyone with dignity and respect and encourages collaborative relationships with colleagues, community providers, patients and family members
  • Consistently identifies ways to improve customer service and feedback while reducing customer/patient complaints
  • Regularly attends department meetings and staff recognition events as appropriate
  • Actively participates in department, healthcare and facility committees
  • Assures timely compliance with job requirements including annual FIT testing, TB, flu vaccination, LMS, licensure and certification renewals
  • Identifies own educational needs and seeks appropriate learning experience
  • Adheres to facility and department attendance requirements
  • Disinfects all equipment
  • Assists with cleaning and turnover of the operating room after the procedure
  • Keeps work area clean, organized and clutter free
  • Ensures department has equipment and supplies necessary to provide consistent quality and service delivery
  • Reports any unsafe situations or safety hazards immediately
  • Labels and removes any malfunctioning equipment from service and notifies management
  • Participates in drills and demonstrates understanding of role in emergencies or disasters
  • Interacts with patients, families, guests, medical staff and peers professionally and timely
  • Follows the chain of command and escalates issues appropriately
  • Utilizes effective communication and interpersonal skills to support healthcare needs of the care team, patient and family members
  • Communicates and coordinates patient requirements with ancillary departments
  • Answers and routes incoming calls appropriately and takes messages
  • Refrains from unprofessional discussions and remains positive
  • Respects patient privacy and confidentiality, following HIPAA laws
  • Demonstrates knowledge of basic cleaning and OR terminal sanitation according to established standards, SDS and policies
  • Documents cleaning as required
  • Performs routine and specialty cleaning to maintain a clean, neat and sanitary environment
  • Consistently uses products on appropriate equipment, area and flooring to avoid damage
  • Demonstrates ability to utilize cleaning products according to manufacturer instructions
  • Adheres to appropriate use of scrubs
  • Reports safety hazards promptly
  • Commits to safety by transporting trash and hazardous waste according to standards
  • Participates in maintaining proper inventory supply levels
  • Demonstrates ability to use cleaning equipment
  • Alerts leadership of defective items and removes them from service
  • Attends all required safety training and describes safety responsibilities
  • Follows center exposure control plans for blood borne and airborne pathogens
  • Assists OR staff with moving patients
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and employees
  • May assist with SPD responsibilities if Surgical Tech certification is obtained
  • Reviews clinical infection control standards annually
  • Collaborates with Safety Officer to evaluate and recommend disinfectants and cleaning products
  • Assists leadership in annual cleaning service evaluation
  • Reviews infection control policies for relevancy
  • Participates in Quality Improvement and Infection Control committees
  • Performs other duties as assigned
