Job Requirements
- high school diploma or GED preferred
- six months of customer service related work experience required
- successful completion of training program provided by Environmental Services Department
- ability to read, write, and perform basic math
- excellent customer service and communication skills
- ability to work independently and as part of a team
- physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds, bend frequently, push and pull carts, and stand throughout shift

Job Duties
- follows department procedures to ensure a safe environment
- sets up equipment and readies supplies for use
- corrects observed discrepancies immediately
- completes required housekeeping assignments as scheduled and according to procedure
- reports all uncompleted assignments to supervisor prior to end of shift
- reports discrepancies to service response center or supervisor
- ensures chemical containers are properly labeled and contain correct solution
- returns all mops, rags, and dusters at end of shift
- maintains a clean and orderly porter closet
- performs housekeeping tasks to ensure sanitary condition of all areas
- keeps ceiling and wall vents free of dust
- cleans furniture, doors, walls, and horizontal surfaces
- keeps all interior windows clear of smudges and tape marks
- maintains bathrooms in acceptable condition by properly cleaning all fixtures, walls, floors, sinks, and commodes
- checks all dispensers daily and refills as needed
- collects sharps containers when full, disposes properly and replaces with new liner
- ensures all trash receptacles are cleaned regularly
- cleans mattresses and bed frames on discharge
- cleans all equipment in room and readies room for next admission
- maintains floors in acceptable condition by dust mopping, damp mopping, or vacuuming
- inspects own work to ensure proper completion
- performs unit-specific tasks
- performs various trash removal duties
- collects recycling waste and transports to storage
- assists in breaking down cardboard boxes
- removes medical waste and sharps containers and transports to holding room
- ensures confidential paper containers are locked after removal
- follows proper protocol for safe handling and disposal of contaminated items
- handles and disposes of medical waste and sharps
- ensures trash and linen chute doors are closed and latched after each use
- ties trash and linen bags and disposes in appropriate chutes
- responds immediately to spill clean-up calls
- properly disposes materials used for spill clean-up
- relines linen hampers and trash cans
- maintains bed management system for room availability
- works to achieve patient room turnaround within standard time
- anticipates discharges to plan work schedule
- maintains bed management availability data in IVR
- reads, writes, and performs basic math
- participates as member of patient care team
- accountable for following all policies and procedures and timely completion of duties
- operates cleaning equipment and lifts up to 40 pounds
- consistent use of proper body mechanics
- performs pushing, pulling, bending, and standing duties continuously
