Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, marketing or related field
  • Minimum five years of experience in managing convention and entertainment events, including supervising personnel and coordinating activities
  • Ability to obtain intermittent remote work approval while residing in the Sacramento region
  • Proof of education required at appointment
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends
  • Must pass Live Scan/fingerprinting and other pre-employment requirements
  • Proficient with computer applications
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • Knowledge of event planning, coordination, and servicing principles and techniques
  • Familiarity with multi-purpose facility and theater operations
  • Understanding of health, fire, safety, and emergency procedures for public event facilities
  • Knowledge of administration, personnel management, budgeting, marketing, and promotion
  • Competency in computer applications
  • Skill in multitasking, contract negotiations, public presentations, staff supervision, and prioritizing in an event-driven setting
  • Ability to select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written
  • Capacity to work extended hours including nights and weekends
  • Aptitude for working under time pressure and anticipating service needs

Job Duties

  • Plan and prioritize the work of a major section managing the Sacramento Convention Center
  • Coordinate event planning and outside service needs with catering, concessionaires, security, ushers, and other service providers
  • Meet with facility users and prospective clients to determine event needs and conduct site inspections
  • Collaborate with the Sacramento Convention and Visitors Center to promote the facility and evaluate revenue-generating business opportunities
  • Review and approve contracts ensuring accuracy and readiness of facilities and equipment
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate assigned personnel, providing technical direction for event planning and facility modifications
  • Respond to facility user complaints and inquiries
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
