Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in communication or closely related field
  • minimum of three years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • valid CPR/AED Red Cross certificate preferred
  • bilingual speaking skills a plus
  • event planning certification a plus
  • ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • ability to multi-task and follow oral and written instructions
  • ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
  • willingness to work evenings and weekends
  • ability to travel frequently to venues and merchants
  • willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • ability to enforce city policies and safety procedures
  • willingness to attend off-site meetings and events

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communication or related field
  • three years of progressively responsible related experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • knowledge of event planning techniques and public information dissemination
  • strong verbal and written communication skills
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • experience coordinating event logistics including contracts, permits, and vendor relations
  • ability to prepare reports and maintain accurate records
  • leadership and interpersonal skills
  • ability to perform presentations
  • creative thinking and attention to detail
  • knowledge of budget management
  • event site layout planning skills

Job Duties

  • Work directly with the Events Manager in planning and preparing city-sponsored events
  • assist in recruiting and training employees, volunteers, and participants assigned to events
  • prioritize job tasks, develop timelines, and meet deadlines
  • create work schedules and detail specific job duties for event staff
  • collaborate with stakeholders to oversee event setup and takedown
  • secure necessary permits, licensing, and signage
  • ensure safety standards are implemented
  • serve as point of contact for assigned events, manage vendor and entertainment contracts
  • maintain accurate records and perform clerical tasks
  • prepare reports and conduct presentations
  • coordinate with city staff on event permits and rentals
  • enforce city policies and safety procedures
  • travel frequently to event venues and merchants
  • manage registration and sign-up processes
  • stay updated on industry trends and best practices
  • develop new events and evaluate existing ones
  • network to identify best practices and build relationships
  • assist in department budget preparation
  • perform administrative duties and provide tours at City Centre
  • perform other duties as assigned
