Job Requirements

  • bachelor's degree in recreation, event planning and management, tourism, or a related field
  • master’s degree preferred
  • three years of related experience in special events, personnel management, budget management, communications, community engagement, and recreation program management
  • one year of supervisory experience
  • ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • ability to manually lift and load event supplies and equipment
  • valid driver's license with clean driving record according to Virginia DMV standards
  • pre-employment drug test
  • FBI criminal background check
  • education and degree verification
  • ability to convey a positive and professional image

Job Qualifications

  • bachelor's degree in recreation, event planning and management, tourism, or a related field
  • master’s degree preferred
  • three years of experience in developing and executing large special events
  • personnel management experience
  • budget management skills
  • communications and community engagement capabilities
  • recreation program management experience
  • one year in a supervisory capacity
  • strong communication and organizational skills
  • proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and graphic design software
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • creativity in problem-solving

Job Duties

  • assist in the creation and promotion of community engagement special events and experiences in Chesterfield County
  • work cross-departmentally between Parks & Recreation and Sports, Visitation & Entertainment to support county events
  • determine the organization, staffing, and operational activities for county-owned events
  • adhere to budgets set forth for event execution
  • serve as a resource hub for public event needs
  • provide work direction and supervision for the Special Event Coordinator and other staff
  • liaise with community partners, sponsors, businesses, event planners, and resident organizations to build positive relationships
  • perform other work as required
